What is a vector logo?
A vector file describes shapes with paths rather than a fixed grid of pixels. Suitable vector artwork can be scaled for a business card, sign or large print without the pixelation caused by enlarging a small raster image. SVG is commonly used for web graphics, while a PDF can contain vector artwork, raster images or both. The file extension alone does not prove that artwork is vector.
When should you use PNG or JPG?
PNG supports transparency and works well for placing a logo over a compatible background. JPG is useful for photographic previews and graphics on a solid background, but it does not support transparency. Both are raster formats: export them at the pixel dimensions needed for their intended use.
Which files should you give your printer?
Ask your printer for the required size, color setup and file format before production. Send the appropriate vector export when available, and confirm whether fonts need to be outlined. A screen preview is not a substitute for a print proof.
Check your package before ordering
The exact exports and editable files depend on your design package. Review its deliverables, then keep the original handover folder and a separate working copy.
